#FM15 #HaarlemGlobetrotting : Darwen’s Disaster

Ladies and Gentlemen, we will never know. We will never know. I write today with sadness as I announce the end of #HaarlemGlobetrotting. “Why?” at least one of you cry. “Why indeed!” I reply as I wipe a tear from my eye. Continue reading “#FM15 #HaarlemGlobetrotting : Darwen’s Disaster”

#FM15 #HaarlemGlobetrotting : Development

When you write about this game as much as I do, it sometimes feel really hard to keep to it fresh and interesting for people. As I sat down to do this update I was suddenly racked with the fear of “hmmm, this is a bit boring today!” Therefore, I will keep it fairly short and sweet! #FM15 #HaarlemGlobetrotting : At last, Ajax

The Haarlem Stadion will be full for the first time since their reincarnation.  Ajax will visit for the first time in years.  HFC Haarlem will be back in the national newspapers for footballing reasons for the first time since pre-2010, when the original old club had the life support machine turned off on them.  De Roodbroeken play in the Fifth Round of the KNVB-beker tomorrow in a game many Haarlem fans could not have thought possible eight seasons ago, reports Nick Dekkers of NU.nl

#FM15 #HaarlemGlobetrotting : Haarlem Hope Springs Eternal

Welcome back to #HaarlemGlobetrotting, my current FM15 save where I have recreated one of the former “giants” of the Netherlands who went bust in 2010.  We started four seasons ago, in the 4th tier of Dutch football, as an amatuer side and using the basic rules of “Soccernomics” and “Moneyball” I am trying to lead the club back to the Eredivisie title that they won once back in 1946. #FM15 #HaarlemGlobetrotting : Haarlem Horror Show (season three review)

Welcome back to #HaarlemGlobetrotting, where I have recreated the famous old side from Holland.  HFC Haarlem used to be the kings of Eredivisie back in the 1940’s but slipped out of the top flight and ended up going bust in 2010 with debts of only €1.5m.  As a fan of footballing nostalgia and history I decided to reform the club as an amateur side in the 4th tier of Dutch football with the aim of bringing them back to the top in a Moneyball-stylee.  I am now mid-way through season three so felt it was time for a proper review of what has happened so far! #FM15 #HaarlemGlobetrotting : Go to the Top of the Topklasse!

The 2016/17 season is underway and HFC Haarlem are in Topklasse A having been promoted in a nail biting finale last season. Yes, we have finally completed phase one and will be playing in the third tier of Dutch football. Worryingly, we have been made 6/1 favourites. Do the bookies know something I don’t? Probably, as anyone who has read this for a while knows I make all this stuff up as I go along – I am certainly not the Jurgen Klopp of FM. #FM15 #HaarlemGlobetrotting : Haarlem Hotting Up

Nothing like starting the next update with a 21 day gap before the next game. How can I fill it? By now you should all know what #HaarlemGlobetrotting is about. If you don’t, you’ll probably find a post about it somewhere very near you right now. Am I likely to be moaning about players being poached? Probably, you’ll soon know if they are.
