With three suspensions and four injured, the Torry line up at La Nucia was unusual, Burguillos and Eddy holding the defensive middle ground with Borja and Juanra featuring in the middle of the park. Torry were all at sea for the first quarter of an hour as La Nucia were denied by the post and then by two acrobatic Oscar saves. For a team already relegated to the Preferente, they were showing signs that it would not be a long stint out of the National League division.

The temperatures soared at the Vicente Garcia as the May heat arrived on time.  Torrevieja went into the local battle with Crevillente knowing that only a miracle meant they could get into the play offs and the early passages of play suggested that they knew the game was up.

I’ve spent the last couple of nights watching some retro football documentaries, “Gazza: The Real Me,” “Gazza: The Italian Diaries” and “Chris Waddle – The French Way” and watching these absolutely blindingly talented players made me wonder.

So, I made it on to the coach with my very limited Spanish.  Yesterday I headed off to Ontinyent with the club I’ve just started working with as a commercial and PR guy.  CD Torrevieja are my local professional club and, like many at the 4th tier level in Spain, have professionals on the technical side but volunteers running the club out of love for the game.  Obviously, having moved here, I have offered my services – whatever they may be!
