#FM15 #TheMatelianoMission – the return of the CM93/94 3-3-1-3 continues

Hello folks!  #TheMatelianoMission continues today, following a save game disaster yesterday where I lost everything and had to start again!  But fear not, as the league only has 18 games it has not taken long to catch up and push on through to the end of season one.

As I mentioned yesterday, I have a couple of reasons for playing this save.  Firstly, this is a brand new league which means it has not been done to death and hopefully this journey will be unique.  The league winners do qualify for the Champions League qualifiers, so it does have an appeal!  Secondly, as I went through in the first post, I fancied trying to recreate my old CM93/94 3-3-1-3 formation that used to serve me so well.

Having to start the save again was a pain, I was dealt a completely different squad as expected – this time though it actually seemed a little more balanced for the style I wanted to play.  We have a decent ‘keeper, some useful defenders, reasonable midfielders and some strikers who know where the back of the net is.

I flew through the season in under a day – having just 18 league games and a potential of four cup matches does not make a long season, and if anything it was quite frustrating as there were many three week breaks between matches.  I was hoping to do the league and cup double, score as close to 80 goals as possible (about 4 per game on average) and keep the goals conceded down to about 20 – I knew my tactic could be exposed defensively.

Other aims were to average 20 shots per match and have 8 of them on target – I would hope this would lead to a 4 goal per game average.  I was thinking of being interested in our possession stats and pass completion stats, but at the end of the day I would expect this tactic to dominate possession but the opposition will almost certainly always get chances against us.

Anyway, the results are in!  Take a look below.

Yes, the Leopards of US Soregno completed the league and cup double in style.  We won it by ten points, scored 66 (less than I hoped for at an average of 3.66 per game) and conceded 31 (more than I aimed for at an average of 1.78 per game)  We took 508 including cup matches shots (average of 23 per game) and got 40% of them on target, which pleases me.  Possession came in at 57.28% and pass completion at 81%.  All this tells me that we are going in the right direction, and with better players next season this tactic might well have some legs.

We were given £1m for winning the league, meaning the runners-up Calcio got £500k.  In this size of league, I can imagine that this money is going to create a big gap between clubs very quickly – especially if either one of us progress a little in Europe next year – which is very unlikely, admittedly.

These were the league player stats (below)- which will take the basis of my player recruitment over the summer.

As you can see, we can actually improve massively – not many of our players dominated the league at all.  I do have several players that are being trained into playing my system, and after a year of trying I might let a few go and hopefully bring in some more comfortable replacements.

It has been a fun, quick season and I will stick at this save for at least one more to see how well player recruitment goes, how we do in Europe and whether we can retain our title.

Super Soregno!
